Kashmir changes character every month. If you understand the timing, you choose the experience you really want.
March : This is still peak winter mood. Heavy snowfall is very common, especially in higher regions. Snow-covered roads, white landscapes, frozen views — proper winter Kashmir.
April : Snow is still very much possible, particularly in places like Gulmarg and higher altitudes. Lower valleys start turning greener, but you can still experience snow depending on weather patterns.
May : Now it becomes unpredictable. Some batches may witness snow in higher points, some may not. The valley overall turns lush green. Waterfalls flow stronger, gardens bloom, and the chill reduces significantly.
• Green meadows replace snow blankets
• Rivers flow fuller and clearer
• Roads are smoother and more accessible
• Weather stays pleasant, not extreme
A Shikara ride on Dal Lake feels calm and refreshing instead of freezing. Valleys like Sonmarg & Pahalgam look vibrant and alive rather than snow-covered and silent.
Summer Kashmir is not about snow fights. It’s about scenic drives, greenery, comfortable weather, and relaxed exploration. So the real question is simple – Do you want white Kashmir or green Kashmir?
Both are magical. You just need to pick your version…..

Srinagar
In summer, Srinagar feels vibrant and alive. Dal Lake reflects clear blue skies as Shikaras glide smoothly across calm waters. The Mughal gardens bloom in full color, floating markets are lively, and visits to Hazratbal Shrine and Shankaracharya Temple offer peaceful panoramic views of the valley.
Gulmarg – The Summer Meadow
During summer, Gulmarg transforms into a vast green carpet surrounded by pine forests and rolling hills. The weather remains pleasantly cool, perfect for Gondola rides, long nature walks, and open meadow views. Instead of snow fields, you experience wide landscapes, fresh mountain air, and a calm atmosphere ideal for relaxation.
Pahalgam – The Valley of Shepherds
Pahalgam shines in summer with the Lidder River flowing bright and clear. Located around 90 km from Srinagar at an altitude of about 2,200 meters, it is surrounded by dense pine forests, green valleys, and scenic mountain backdrops. The pleasant climate makes it ideal for riverside strolls and peaceful exploration.
Sonamarg – The Meadow of Gold
At nearly 9,000 ft above sea level, Sonamarg in summer offers expansive green meadows framed by glaciers and rugged peaks. The views are dramatic yet soothing, with the famous Thajiwas Glacier adding a touch of snow even in warmer months. It’s a refreshing escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Kashmir Trip Guide: What You Need to Know Before You Go (Summer Edition)
Temperatures: Pleasant, Not Extreme : Kashmir in summer is refreshing and comfortable. From April to July, daytime temperatures usually range between 10°C to 20°C, while nights can drop to 10°C to -5°C, especially in higher-altitude areas like Gulmarg and Sonamarg.
It’s not harsh heat like plains. It’s cool mornings, bright afternoons, and breezy evenings.
What to Pack: Light woolens or a medium jacket (for evenings)
Comfortable cotton clothes for daytime
Sunglasses & sunscreen
Good walking shoes / sports shoes
Cap or hat for sun protection
Moisturizer & basic skincare

Traffic Conditions: Travel with Flexibility : Summer is peak tourist season in Kashmir. Roads are clearer compared to winter, but tourist rush can slow things down.
What to Expect: Possible traffic near popular sightseeing spots
Delays during weekends or peak holiday dates
Security checkpoints on highways (normal procedure)
Longer travel time during heavy tourist flow
Unlike winter, you won’t deal with snow blockages — but patience is still important during busy months.
Stays: Comfortable, Scenic & Pleasant (Summer Edition) : Kashmiri hotels, cottages, and houseboats feel vibrant in summer. Open windows, fresh air, and lake or mountain views make the stay naturally refreshing. Since it’s peak season, properties are lively and often fully booked — so expect a warm, active atmosphere rather than a silent winter vibe.
Power & Water: Power supply is generally stable in summer
Hot water is easily available(no extreme heating delays).. If the temperature goes down it will take some time to heat.
Rooms remain comfortable without heavy heating systems
In some remote or peak locations, minor power fluctuations can still happen — but nothing like winter challenges.

Stay hydrated during long sightseeing days
Charge devices overnight as a routine
Summer stays in Kashmir are less about surviving the cold and more about enjoying the view, the breeze, and relaxed evenings.
